About Sail & Charter Guide
Sail & Charter Guide is an independent sailing publication. It covers the ground most sailors cross sooner or later: a first course, the step up to skipper, chartering a boat for a week, the passages that make the Channel and its islands such a good cruising ground, and the gear and habits that keep a crew safe and comfortable.
Articles are based on published training syllabuses, official guidance from coastguard and harbour authorities, pilot books and charts, and the shared practical knowledge of cruising sailors. Pilotage notes are written to help with planning, never to replace a current chart, almanac or forecast.
Sail & Charter Guide does not run courses, book charters or sell equipment, and it does not take payment for recommendations. Harbours change, rules change and buoys get moved. If you spot something out of date, the contact form is the quickest way to tell us, and corrections are made as soon as they are checked.
